 Travel in Liverpool

When I arrived in Southport, I was surprised because the teachers said this city is in front of the sea but we arrived at the supermarket car park and in the country. In the bus we spoke about the families' physical appearance, the cars, and the houses.

When I saw Vanessa, our host, my first impression was good because she was very nice, and she was approximately twenty years old. The house where I stayed during the week (from 7 to13 April 2013) was great but it was separated into different apartments. Her apartment was very funny.

During this travel I remember last year in London with the "terminales", because it was the last year with us.

I preferred the Beatles museum because I like their music and their career. The story of the Titanic was very interesting except the people who always spoke. I liked  the landscape very much, the culture (statues in the beach), and the architecture of the monuments.

The atmosphere in the bus was very funny with the boys sang.

Thank you for this fabulous trip in England.

Travels with the Beatles

The Beatles story Museum is located in the Albert Docks in Liverpool.
The Beatles story tells about the Beatles' life. Before the trip, we learnt about the Beatles story in class. We travelled into the past. During the visit of the museum we heard the testimony of the sister of John Lennon, Julia, the beginnings of the Beatles, their rise to fame and the late Beatles.  The Beatles members were John Lennon, the songwriter- singer and the guitarist, Paul McCartney, backing-vocalist, George Harrison, the leader guitarist, and Ringo Starr, the drummer. The songs that are most popular are A Day in the Life, Yesterday and Something... After the Beatles' death, their popularity still exists. Their songs are still popular. The Beatles are dead but they  still exist in the hearts of the population.
I really enjoyed this museum because it was an original way to know more about the life of the Beatles but I found that there was not enough time to listen to all the explanation for each tracks.

My week in England

When I got out of the bus the weather was nice, we had no sun and no rain either.
I saw the host lady, she was very funny! And her car too!
It was a very small blue car.
Me and Benoît couldn’t put the suitcase in the car, because the suitcase was bigger than the car!
On our first day we visited Cadbury, it was really very large and much fun.
My favourite visit was the Beatles Museum, because I like the Beatles!
The lady in the family was very cool and very nice. She had a little house to accompany this little car.
Our meals were always the same, sandwich with ham, butter with chips… It was edible.
IN SHORT it was a good trip! J

Quarry Bank Mill

Quarry Bank Mill is a cotton factory, it is near Manchester in the village of Styal. We can see the different process of fabrication with the different machines of this factory.

The waterwhell:

The mill was founded by Samuel Greg in 1784 on the River Bollin. It was designed by Thomas Hewes and built between 1816 and 1820 which is the biggest water wheel in Europe. When the water wheel turned, the motion moved the belt and powered the machine.
The cotton machines and children work

Quarry Bank Mill is notable for its use of unpaid child apprentices, a system that continued until 1847, with the last child to be indentured starting work in 1841. When children work on the machine cotton, they had sometimes accidents, Machines was biggest and they make a lot of noise.

Do you really know Great Britain ?

Great Britain is an island of the northwest coast of continental Europe. You all know, the capital city of London but do you know the number of people who live in Britain? 61 400 000 million people! It has an area of 229 850km².
Queen Elizabeth II has a symbolic role, however, the person who really runs the country is David Cameron, the prime minister. Their currency is the pound sterling and the languages spoken are English, Welsh, Irish, Scottish and major cities are London, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast.

A little gossip?

There was the wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William in 2011, then, the Olympic games were organized in England. In 2013, we wait for the arrival of the baby of Kate Middleton with impatience.
Do you know some British Celebrities ?
- David Beckam, Mister Bean or Mary Poppins.
And it's in England that the movie Harry potter was made. There is a city where Shakespeare was born.

Crosby statues

 Crosby beach
In the head of the statues:

I thought the statue was the watchman of the sea.
They look at the sea and imagine every day that he is going to take place.
They saw the sea go up and go down.
They thought the people in the boat who visited the England.
They asked questions
“When they came in England ? ”
“How many times they rest in England ? “
Florent

Statues of the sea

We went to Crosby beach. It was raining and we just had time to admire the statue and run in the beach. I think this statue is not a good idea because swimmers could get hurt …

In the skin of the statue :

The statue can’t see,

In their place I would admire the scenery day and night.

They can only believe in sunlight,

To free then from foam clinging

To their rocky skin.

When the sun goes down at last

She dives for a midnight swim fast
among the bright fish in the Irish Sea.

Then she falls asleep peacefully

Birds on her shoulders

Like thirsty condors

She admires the scarlet sky.

Like an immobile spy

Finally I think that her campus

As the god of Olympus.

     Another Place

When our trip in England the 7 or 13 April 2013, we went to the place “another place”. The sculptures represents the men standing looking at the beach. Another Place was first exhibited on the beach of Cuxhaven, Germany, in 1997 and after that in Stavanger in Norway and De Panne in Belgium. Cast iron figures which face out to sea, spread over a 2 mile (3.2 km) stretch of the beach between Waterloo and Blundell sands. Each figure is 189 cm tall (nearly 6 feet 2½ inches) and weighs around 650 kg (over 1400 lb.).

Originally the statues were due to be relocated in November 2006. Those who use the front for watersports voice the strongest resistance to the iron men staying, as the statues do pose a safety problem.

The works, which had earlier been displayed in Germany, Norway and Belgium, became a major tourist attraction on Crosby Beach north of Liverpool.
